A terrific choice! Some artists are just so gifted there aren't the words to describe them, but there's a Colm Tóibín quote about Lispector that always sticks in my mind - '[she] had, in common with Borges in his fiction, an ability to write as though no one had ever written before'
I love that! And Colm Tóibín has such a different sensibility than Lispector. I always appreciate it when writers with different aesthetics can fist bump across styles.
I was quite intrigued by your post describing The Passion According to G.H., and found that a copy was available at the library at Western Michigan University, so asked my daughter to borrow it for me. I’m a bit more than halfway through, and have to say your write up is spot-on .. ‘maybe something else’ indeed … it’s fascinating and insightful but so much more than that. Lispector’s amazing use of written language to describe the indescribable stands right along some of the mystic poetry I’ve come across before in my reading, and of course it all unfolds to take place in one small room. I’m grateful to have come across your post and encountered this book.
Oh yay! I'm so glad you picked it up! It's a book that is worth another read a year or two from now. There is so much to uncover each time. It's a remarkable work.
Agreed, I will have to read this again over time .. some of it is impenetrable on first reading and best to come back later to try to reveal a bit more. But it's fascinating to wonder about the state of mind necessary to write something like this. Thanks again for posting about this book.
This seems right up my alley. I love weird, conceptual books like this. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for reading. I hope you love this book!
Thank you for this wonderful review. I added it to my kindle and cannot wait to read it this weekend.
McCarthy noted that the only novels that interested him were the ones that concern life and death.
Tolkien said the same thing
Explains why I like McCarthy. Thank you for reading!

I bought this in a recent haul. Looking forward to reading both the book and your take eventually.
Awesome. I hope you enjoy it!
